His contributions consistently demonstrate a commitment to practical economic integration. His statements consistently move beyond theoretical discussions to practical implementation, focusing on policy reforms and practical mechanisms that directly benefit businesses and citizens, especially small-scale traders. As Director of the Economic, Trade and Investment Bureau, H.E. Bonaventure Adjavor frequently represented the former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, at significant economic and trade events. This representation signifies the authority and trust placed in his expertise in matters of trade and investment.
A key focus of his work has been advocacy for intra-African trade and regional economic resilience. He notably called for an effective response in Intra-African trading, emphasizing the need for removal of Non-Tariff Barriers to trade, to make way for robust strategies to maintain economic activity across the continent. Furthermore, he has been a vocal proponent for the practical implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), stressing that it should not remain a theoretical framework but rather a practical action to achieve Africa’s potential as an economic powerhouse. He consistently advocates for the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to fully harness the benefits of the AfCFTA.
H.E. Bonaventure Adjavor has also addressed internal economic policy, calling for Ghana to expedite action on implementing internal indirect tax reform measures. He links this to broader regional trade facilitation, recognizing that domestic reforms are crucial for enhancing overall trade competitiveness. He has consistently emphasized the necessity of developing the region’s production capacity, removing all constraints and obstacles to intra-regional trade, improving product quality to meet international standards, and ensuring macroeconomic stability to attract increased investment and foster economic development.
He has highlighted the vital role these traders play in national development, poverty reduction, and food security across the West African sub-region and Africa generally. He advocates for better-targeted interventions and the formalization of support for these traders, recognizing that despite challenges, their importance is increasingly acknowledged at national and regional levels. This strong emphasis on intra-African trade, regional economic integration, and the empowerment of local businesses points to a deliberate national strategy. Ghana views regional economic blocs and intra-African trade as fundamental pillars for its national development and broader continental prosperity. Officials like H.E. Bonaventure Adjavor are instrumental in translating this vision into actionable policies and initiatives, positioning Ghana as a leader in African economic integration.
In his previous leadership role as the Head of ECOWAS National Unit, Ghana, H.E. Bonaventure Adjavor played a significant part in regional economic integration initiatives. He chaired meetings at the Technical Committee levels at ECOWAS.
