The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Zimbabwe hosted a diplomatic reception under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope” to commemorate the 69th Independence Anniversary of Ghana, on 6th March, 2026, at the Heritage Village in Harare.
The vibrant event was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, as the Guest of Honour, together with other notable senior Government officials. It also brought together, Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations in Zimbabwe, members of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as members of the Ghanaian community in Zimbabwe, and other key partners of the Mission, as well as invited guests.
The event marked an important moment to celebrate Ghana’s continued commitment to democratic governance, economic development, and regional cooperation. It also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding and cordial relations between Ghana and Zimbabwe, as well as the shared values and aspirations that unite both countries.
In his remarks at the reception, the Ambassador of the Republic Ghana to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr. Bonaventure Adjavor highlighted the historic significance of Ghana’s independence and its enduring legacy on the African continent. The Ambassador also outlined Ghana’s trajectory of growth and prosperity witnessed under the visionary leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, through flagship programmes like the “Reset Agenda” and the “24-Hour Economy” policy, which are yielding fiscal stabilization in Ghana and shifting the paradigm of the production and service sectors of the country.
He further underscored Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Zimbabwe, and deepening partnerships in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, tourism, health, agriculture, and education.
Similarly, the Guest of Honour and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira underscored that the independence of Ghana was fundamentally critical for Pan-Africanism, and the restoration of the dignity of all African people, and all humanity. The Honourable Foreign Minister also emphasized Zimbabwe’s willingness to accelerate its bilateral relations with Ghana, in the spirit of enduring fraternal ties.
He emphasised that Zimbabwe’s Doctrine of Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, which bore the cardinal principle of “Friend to all and enemy to none,” reflected the country’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy as the primary tool for peace, security and development cooperation. The Honourable Foreign Minister further intimated that the “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” mantra meant that the country was ready to engage with Ghana and the global community, through robust economic partnerships.
The reception served not only as a celebration of Ghana’s national milestone, but also as a platform for dialogue and engagement among diplomatic partners and stakeholders, while celebrating the spirit of friendship and solidarity that characterizes Ghana’s relations with Zimbabwe and the wider international community.
