The presentation spoke to the fundamentals of Ghana’s national security architecture and assessed key elements such as community engagement, human security integration, technological modernization, and maritime security, which constitute the pillars of Ghana’s security framework to effectively safeguard the country against threats of insurgency in the sub-region.

During the presentation, the Ambassador examined the unique security landscape in West Africa in recent years, including well-known threats to geo-political security in the region, including terrorism and violent extremism, transnational organized crime, maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea, as well as regional fragmentation and military coups.

He affirmed Ghana’s strong commitment to the resumption of stability in the region through regional security cooperation frameworks such as the Accra Initiative, launched in 2017. Recognising the current ECOWAS-AES impasse, Ghana has initiated dialogue to explore a new collaborative platform, which is aimed at joining together all countries in the region to fight violent extremism and transnational organised crime.
