It has come to the attention of the Ghana Embassy to Zimbabwe with concurrent accreditation to Mozambique and the Union of the Comoros, that many of our compatriots unlawfully enter into the above countries without the needed entry permits.
The situation is particularly alarming with the movement of Ghanaians into Zimbabwe. The Embassy of Ghana is sufficiently aware, that a lot of the Ghanaians who enter into Zimbabwe without the needed entry permits do so, through the Beitbridge Border Post with South Africa. The Embassy of Ghana is further sufficiently aware, that some of the Ghanaians desirous of entering into Zimbabwe obtain fake exit permits from the South African, and also enter into Zimbabwe without the needed entry permits. Worse still, reports reaching the Ghana Embassy in Harare also suggest, that some Ghanaians make attempts to fraudulently obtain Zimbabwean national identity documentation with the intention of either exiting Zimbabwe with such documents, or securing job opportunities in the country.
The Embassy of Ghana wishes to reiterate, that although Ghana and Zimbabwe have a visa-free entry Agreement, travelers must obtain valid entry permits for their smooth stay in Zimbabwe. These permits are valid for 90 days, and are usually issued in three segments of 30 days. For the avoidance of doubt, Ghanaians who enter into Zimbabwe with valid entry permits are initially given 30 days stay, subject to renewal twice, cumulatively bringing their stay in Zimbabwe up to 90 days. After the 90 days, a Ghanaian who wishes to extend his or her stay in the country will have to exit Zimbabwe and re-enter, to begin the processes of stay permit acquisitions for another 90 days. Affected Ghanaians are, however, to note that these processes cannot continue indefinitely. They are to kindly contact the Zimbabwean Immigration officials for clarity and further guidance.
The Embassy of Ghana by this circular, wishes to kindly and strongly advise all Ghanaians against the fraudulent practices of obtaining fake entry permits and national identity documents of the aforementioned countries. All Ghanaians who want to acquire these permits and documents are encouraged to go through the legitimate procedures and processes.
All Ghanaians in the Embassy’s countries of accreditation are further to note, that there are limited job opportunities in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and in the Union of the Comoros. The Embassy in that regard, wishes to state that it is advisable to conduct a thorough search of job opportunities in these countries before traveling, to ensure there are available and suitable job vacancies. The Embassy of Ghana in Harare also wishes to state, that the rise in illegal entries and fraudulent activities has resulted in numerous arrests, which place a significant strain on the Mission’s human and financial resources but most importantly, have the potential to damage the reputation of Ghana in the Embassy’s countries of accreditation. While the Embassy of Ghana in Harare emphasizes its commitment to assisting stranded Ghanaians, it would, however, want to notify Ghanaians that it has its limits, more so, as relatives of the stranded Ghanaians are in most instances, not willing to assist in the repatriation of their stranded relatives.Ghanaians desirous of traveling to Zimbabwe are, therefore, advised to take note of the implications of their plans.
